Your Fertility Journey

An estimated 1 in 6 couples are affected by infertility, but not all of them have trouble achieving or maintaining pregnancy for the same reasons. Successfully conceiving and carrying a pregnancy to term requires good sperm, viable eggs and a properly functioning uterus. We work with you to identify your unique challenges. These can include advanced maternal age, genetic predispositions, improper sperm function, uterine anomalies, and many more. By understanding your unique situation, your doctor will work with you to help build your family.

Same-sex female couples trying to conceive will require a sperm donor. Donor inseminations are performed using either anonymous donor sperm from a bank, or sperm from a known individual of your choosing. If anonymous donation is required, CReATe works with several reputable sperm banks who can help you find your ideal donor. If the person providing eggs will not be carrying the pregnancy or if donor sperm insemination is not successful, then IVF may be required.

For artificial insemination, donor sperm is introduced into the uterus of the chosen partner, with the intention of inducing pregnancy, this is called Intrauterine Insemination (IUI). (link to intrauterine insemination under fertility services).

Using third party reproductive services involves special psychosocial considerations. We will be arranging for one of our on-site psychosocial counsellors to discuss these with you.

Same-sex male couples will require the services of an egg donor, as well as a gestational carrier (surrogate). The eggs can either be donated by a known party (i.e. a family member or friend) or a donor from an agency. CReATe works with several egg donation agencies who will connect you with suitable candidates. You will then have to decide whether you want to make embryos from both partners’ sperm or just one.

The gestational carrier is the individual who will carry the baby for the duration of the pregnancy, without contributing any genetic material to the child. They can be a family member or friend, or we can help you find a suitable gestational carrier through an agency.

As a single female trying to conceive, you will require the services of a sperm donor. Most donor sperm is procured anonymously from a sperm bank, although you can also use sperm from a known donor. Should you require the services of a sperm bank, we will provide information on how to choose a sperm donor.

As a single parent by choice, you are not alone. Facilitated by our dedicated counsellor, Jan Silverman, On Our Own is a gathering for singles who want to share, discuss and explore feelings, information, issues and solutions related to single parenthood by choice. All support groups at CReATe are free of cost, and everyone is most welcome to attend, even if you are not a patient. For more information, please email Jan at jan@createivf.com.

As a single male intending to conceive, you will require the services of an egg donor and gestational carrier (surrogate) . The egg donor provides eggs for insemination while the gestational carrier carries the baby in her womb until birth. This means that half of your baby’s genetic makeup will be inherited from the egg donor, and no genetic material will be inherited from the gestational carrier.
