Starting January 2025, Ontario residents can benefit from a new refundable Fertility Tax Credit that refunds up to 25% of eligible fertility treatment expenses, up to a maximum of $5,000 per year.

To be eligible:

Below is a general guide of what can be claimed:
- Fertility Procedures: IUI, IVF, ICSI, embryo transfer, egg or sperm freezing, sperm extraction/processing
- Cryostorage Fees: Storage of sperm, eggs, or embryos
- Donor Eggs or Sperm: Fees from donor banks or agencies
- Surrogacy-Related Medical Costs (in Canada)
- Prescribed Medications (with DIN #): not covered by insurance
- Medical Supplies: Needles, syringes, etc.
- Consultation & Clinical Fees
- Lab & Diagnostic Testing not covered by OHIP
- Travel Expenses: if traveling 40+ km (one way) for treatment (keep gas, meal, and hotel receipts!)
- Allied Health Services (if relevant to fertility): naturopathy, acupuncture, psychology, etc. (see CRA for province-specific eligibility)
- Keep Receipts: Save all fertility-related invoices with clear dates, service descriptions, and provider info.
