Fertility Preservation for Female and Male Cancer Patients

The CReATe team of experienced and compassionate health care professionals
is focused on quickly providing you with the information you need so that you are fully informed of your fertility preservation options prior to cancer treatment. The Fertility Preservation program is directed by Dr. Karen Glass. Time is set aside each week to see women and men who need urgent consultation. The program is academic with University of Toronto affiliated staff. We have been assisting patients with cancer since 2000 when oncofertility was newly invented. Our program is one of the largest and most extensive in Canada. We can assist with egg and embryo freezing, ovarian tissue freezing, ovarian transposition, egg donation, surrogacy, sperm banking, and sperm donation. Our program offers extremely reduced fees for IVF for oncology patients. Upcoming Ontario government funding will most likely cover the fees for egg and embryo freezing for patients starting December 2015.

If you have a recent cancer diagnosis, we will see you within 2-3 days of that diagnosis. Please phone the CReATe Fertility Preservation Program directly at (416) 323-7727 ext ____ to make an appointment. Alternatively your oncology team can fax a referral to 416-323-7334 (attn. Dr. Glass) or use the CKN Oncofertility Referral Network to send a referral online.

Hallmarks of our comprehensive program include specialized training, compassionate support and individualized quality care. We offer a multidisciplinary approach that combines the expertise of reproductive endocrinologists who have sub-specialized in fertility preservation for cancer patients, a certified embryology lab staff with expertise in cryopreservation, specially-trained nurses, social workers, andrology expertise and a vast support team of caring administrative staff who can help you with other details including grants from the Fertile Future Charity and financing options.

All of this expertise is coupled with close and seamless collaboration with our patients’ cancer specialists. We have existing relationships and work with oncologists in the GTA and throughout the province who are aware of the necessity to collaborate quickly to manage your fertility preservation options so we can integrate your fertility preservation choices into the process of your cancer care.

At the CReATe Fertility Preservation Program, we understand that each patient’s situation is unique and create an individualized treatment plan to address your specific needs. We preserve fertility in patients that have any cancer including breast, leukemia, lymphoma, colon, and gynecologic malignancies. We have expertise in PGS and partner with Genesis genetics for PGD for hereditary cancer syndromes, and other medical conditions. Through education and counseling we encourage you to actively make decisions about your fertility. We will support you through your journey to build your family.

Dr. Karen Glass’ research on young women with Breast Cancer won the Biljan Award at the CFAS Annual Meeting in October 2015.
